  • roczny wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się dla danego etapu studiów wynosi 1500-1800 h, co odpowiada 60 ECTS;
  • tygodniowy wymiar godzinowy nakładu pracy studenta wynosi 45 h;
  • 1 punkt ECTS odpowiada 25-30 godzinom pracy studenta potrzebnej do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się;
  • tygodniowy nakład pracy studenta konieczny do osiągnięcia zakładanych efektów uczenia się pozwala uzyskać 1,5 ECTS;
  • nakład pracy potrzebny do zaliczenia przedmiotu, któremu przypisano 3 ECTS, stanowi 10% semestralnego obciążenia studenta.

The objectives of the course are:

To acquaint students with general theories of conflicts as well as with theoretical and practical knowledge of negotiation and mediation (applied mediation) as alternative dispute resolution methods.

To introduce to students key features of mediation, characteristics of its process and differences between negotiations, mediation and other conflict resolution methods.

To introduce to students legal regulation of conflict resolution in Europe and the world.

To explain to students role and indispensable elements of each phase of negotiation and mediation process.

To enable students practical examination of the most important techniques used in negotiation and mediation.

The objectives of the course are:

To acquaint students with general theories of conflicts as well as with theoretical and practical knowledge of negotiation and mediation (applied mediation) as alternative dispute resolution methods.

To introduce to students key features of mediation, characteristics of its process and differences between negotiations, mediation and other conflict resolution methods.

To introduce to students legal regulation of conflict resolution in Europe and the world.

To explain to students role and indispensable elements of each phase of negotiation and mediation process.

To enable students practical examination of the most important techniques used in negotiation and mediation.

The topics are:

1. Kick-off meeting

2. Role of communication in conflicts and conflict resolving strategies; Social and professional roles as a conflict influencing factor.

3. Conflicts in a public sphere – characteristics, examples; Innovative approach towards conflicts in public space – case: Kabul

4. Conflict theories (Moore circle of conflicts)

5. Conflict management, conflict resolution, conflict transformation

6. Mediation – theory and application in conflict situations

7. Negotiation styles, techniques and main problems; Crisis hostage negotiations

8. Mediation and negotiation practice; Role play

9. Students’ presentations

10. International negotiations

11. EU role in conflict management

12. Course summary; students’ individual projects

13. Final test and conflict-related short movies

14. Final notes. Discussion on students’ acquired knowledge, skills and abilities

Students will understand the nature of conflicts and their impact on interpersonal relations, organizations and institutions

Students will understand the factors influencing conflicts in public sphere

Students will demonstrate communication skills in various conflict situations, they will efficiently apply various negotiation strategies and use mediation tools in a wide range of conflict situations
